What the result means
Temperature scales have different zero points as well as different interval sizes, so conversion requires an offset and a multiplier. This differs from simple unit conversions that use only one factor.

20°C × 9/5 + 32 = 68°F
Temperature scales have different zero points as well as different interval sizes, so conversion requires an offset and a multiplier. This differs from simple unit conversions that use only one factor.
Use fixed points: 0°C = 32°F = 273.15 K and 100°C = 212°F = 373.15 K. Kelvin must never be below 0 K.
Do not apply the Celsius-to-Fahrenheit formula to temperature differences: an interval of 1 °C equals 1.8 °F, without adding 32. Kelvin values below absolute zero are not physically valid.
Keep the original scale beside readings in weather, cooking, laboratory or equipment records. Round only to the precision supported by the source instrument, then convert back when a safety threshold matters.
Keep the original reading and instrument precision beside a converted safety threshold. Convert a temperature, not an interval: differences do not use the +32 offset.
Convert temperatures between Celsius, Fahrenheit and Kelvin. The result is calculated from the values you enter and the formula shown on this page.
It applies °F = °C × 9/5 + 32 · K = °C + 273.15. Values, fees, rules or timing not represented by an input are not added automatically.
