Calculation methodology
What the current implementation does, what it assumes, and how to interpret its results responsibly.
How calculations run
CalcOcean tools run in the browser. The formula engine is separate from the interface and does not send calculator inputs to a calculation API. Required numeric inputs must be finite, dates must be valid calendar dates, and individual formulas apply additional rules such as nonzero denominators.
Precision and rounding
Calculations use JavaScript floating-point numbers. Most results are displayed to two decimal places, with exceptions such as BMI, GPA and whole calendar days. Monetary tools currently display euros and do not convert currencies, so all monetary inputs should use the same currency. These results do not replace accounting software with jurisdiction-specific rounding rules.
Financial assumptions
Loan and mortgage tools assume fixed rates and equal monthly payments and exclude fees, insurance and taxes unless stated. Compound interest assumes monthly compounding and end-of-month contributions. Salary tools estimate gross equivalents rather than take-home pay, while GPA gives equal weight to the displayed courses on a 4.0 scale.
Testing and corrections
Automated tests cover worked examples, missing and malformed inputs, non-finite values, invalid dates, division by zero and selected numerical regressions. Passing software tests does not establish independent expert review. A correction should update the formula, its explanation and the corresponding regression test together.
Health and financial limits
BMI is an adult screening estimate, not a diagnosis or a direct measurement of body fat. Energy estimates are not prescriptions and are unsuitable for children or individualized treatment. Financial outputs are illustrative estimates, not financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
Content status and sources
Mathematical examples can be reproduced directly. Definitions or rules that may change should rely on current primary sources. CalcOcean does not invent people, qualifications, reviews or review dates; a specialist is credited only after a real, verifiable review.
History and privacy
The latest 50 successful calculations are stored in the current browser profile. Reopening an entry recalculates its stored inputs with the current engine, so a corrected formula may produce a different result. History is not encrypted or synchronized to an account; clear it when using a shared device.
Reporting a problem
Send the calculator URL, non-sensitive sample inputs, the expected result and the actual result to support@calcocean.com. Do not include private financial, tax or medical records.
