How this calculation works

Estimate monthly payments, total payment and total interest. Enter the amount borrowed, annual interest rate and term in years to estimate the monthly payment, total repaid and total interest.

Formula used

M = P × r(1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1)

Good to know

Results are estimates for informational purposes.

Example calculation

P = €250,000 · r = 4.5% ÷ 12 · n = 20 × 12 = 240

What the result means

The payment is an amortization estimate based on principal, periodic interest and term. The total interest shows financing cost within that model, not necessarily the lender’s complete annual percentage rate or final settlement amount.

A practical accuracy check

Monthly payment times payment count minus principal approximates total interest. First-month interest should equal opening balance times the monthly rate.

Assumptions and limits

Origination fees, insurance, taxes, late charges, variable rates and lender-specific rounding are excluded unless entered elsewhere. Compare official offers using the same amount, term and fee assumptions before making a commitment.

Using the result responsibly

Test a shorter term, a lower rate and an additional principal payment separately. This reveals whether the decision is driven more by monthly affordability or by total borrowing cost.

A relevant comparison to try

Compare two terms with the same principal and annual rate. A longer term may lower the payment but raise total interest; fees and variable-rate changes remain excluded.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter the amount borrowed, annual interest rate and term in years to estimate the monthly payment, total repaid and total interest.
  2. Check units and time periods before comparing two results.
  3. Change one input at a time to understand its effect.

Good to know

Illustrative estimate; fees, taxes and provider rules are excluded unless stated.

Which assumptions does the Loan Calculator use?

It applies M = P × r(1+r)ⁿ ÷ ((1+r)ⁿ − 1). Values, fees, rules or timing not represented by an input are not added automatically.
