Protein Intake Calculator
Compare an adult protein reference with a sports-nutrition range based on body weight.
Your estimate
Enter your values and calculate. Results will appear here.
A range communicates that exercise-related needs vary. This calculation concerns total daily protein from all food and supplements combined. It does not imply that a supplement is necessary or specify how to distribute meals.
How to use this calculator
Select weight units and enter current body weight. Choose the general reference or regular-exercise context. The options describe different references; they are not a progression system in which the highest number is always best.
Formula and methodology
General adult reference = kg × 0.8 g/day. Exercise reference range = kg × 1.4 to kg × 2.0 g/day.
Worked example
At 70 kg, the general reference is 56 g/day. The exercise comparison gives 98–140 g/day. Entering the equivalent 154.32 lb produces essentially the same quantities, allowing for the rounded input.
What the result means
A range communicates that exercise-related needs vary. This calculation concerns total daily protein from all food and supplements combined. It does not imply that a supplement is necessary or specify how to distribute meals.
Limitations
Body-weight multiplication cannot assess kidney disease, pregnancy, clinical recovery or unusual body composition. The exercise range is not a prescription for every athlete, and the general reference should not be read as a maximum.
Common mistakes
Avoid counting food protein and then adding the full result again as a supplement dose. When using pounds, let the unit control convert them; do not manually convert and then select pounds.
Frequently asked questions
Is the exercise result a single target?
No. It is a reference interval, not an individually selected requirement.
Does food protein count?
Yes. The comparison is for the total from all dietary sources, not supplements alone.
