How to use this calculator
Enter current weight, a modest lower goal, height, maintenance and deficit. The goal must remain within 10% of starting weight and cannot fall below the adult BMI reference boundary. The same conservative deficit limits apply as in our deficit calculator.
Formula and methodology
Simplified weeks = (starting kg − goal kg) × 7,700 kcal/kg ÷ daily deficit ÷ 7. This static energy-equivalent model is not a physiological forecast.
Worked example
A difference of 5 kg and an illustrative 250 kcal/day deficit gives 38,500 ÷ 250 = 154 days, or 22 weeks. This describes the equation only; it does not promise that a person will reach that weight in 22 weeks.

Limitations

Common mistakes
Do not shorten the displayed time by forcing a larger deficit. Nor should slower scale changes be interpreted as failure: the calculation omits important real-world variation.
Frequently asked questions
Why is this not a predicted completion date?
The static energy assumption cannot reliably forecast an individual trajectory. The number is deliberately labelled an illustration.
Why can I not enter a very distant goal?
This tool is restricted to a modest comparison. Larger changes need ongoing reassessment that a fixed arithmetic timeline cannot provide.
