How to use this calculator
Choose the adult reference category, then an assumed contribution from food moisture. The default 20% is a scenario you can change, not a measurement of your diet. The calculator deliberately does not multiply body weight by an arbitrary universal water factor.
Formula and methodology
EFSA adult total-water reference: female 2.0 L/day; male 2.5 L/day. Illustrative beverages = total water × (1 − assumed food share / 100).
Worked example
With the 2.5 L reference and an assumed 20% supplied by food, food contributes 0.5 L and beverages 2.0 L. Changing the assumed share to 30% gives 0.75 L from food and 1.75 L from beverages; total water stays 2.5 L.
